A car covers 200km in $4\frac{1}{2} $h and then another 240 km in $3 \frac{1}{2}$ h. Find its average speed.
Given: A car covers 200km in $4\frac{1}{2} $h and then another 240 km in $3 \frac{1}{2}$ h
To find: The average speed
Solution
Total distance travelled = 200 + 240 = 440 km
Total time taken =$4\frac{1}{2} $ +$3 \frac{1}{2}$= 8 hours
Average speed = $\frac{Total \ distance \ travelled}{Total \ time \ taken}$
= $\frac{440}{8}$ = 55 kmph
So Average speed = 55 kmph
