A body is at rest even though 2N force is acting on it. Explain the reason.

According to Newton's laws, for a body to change its state of motion or rest, an external unbalanced force is required.

In this case, although a 2N force is acting on the body, there could be other forces that are also acting on the body. These other forces can balance the 2 N force, making the net force zero.

For example, friction can act in the opposite direction of the applied force and balance it.

Since net force is zero, the body continues in the state of rest.
