A beaker full of water is suspended from a spring balance. Will the reading of the balance change :
(a) if a cork is placed in water ?
(b) if a piece of heavy metal is placed in it ?
Give reasons for your answer.

(a). As the density of cork is lighter than that of the water, so it floats in water. So the reading of the balance will not change.

(b). If a piece of heavy metal is placed in water,  it will sink in water. So the reading of the balance will change.
