A bag contains 5 red and 3 yellow balls. One ball is drawn at random from the bag. Find the probability of getting a red ball.

Given :

The total number of red balls in the bag $= 5$.

The total number of yellow balls in the bag $= 3$.

To find:

We have to find the probability of getting a red ball.

Solution :

The total number of balls in the bag $=5+3=8$.

Therefore,

The probability of drawing a red ball $= \frac{Number\ of\ red\ balls}{Total\ number\ of\ balls} = \frac{5}{8}$.

Therefore, the probability of getting a red ball is $\frac{5}{8}$.
