A bag contains 5 black, 7 red and 3 white balls. A ball is drawn from the bag at random. Find the probability that the ball drawn is red.

Given:

A bag contains 5 black, 7 red and 3 white balls. A ball is drawn from the bag at random.

To do:

We have to find the probability that the ball drawn is red.

Solution:

Number of black balls $=5$

Number of red balls $=7$

Number of white balls $=3$

Total number of balls $=5+7+3=15$

This implies,

The total number of possible outcomes $n=15$.

Total number of favourable outcomes(drawing a red ball) $=7$.

We know that,

Probability of an event $=\frac{Number\ of\ favourable\ outcomes}{Total\ number\ of\ possible\ outcomes}$

Therefore,

Probability that the ball drawn is red $=\frac{7}{15}$

The probability that the ball drawn is red is $\frac{7}{15}$.
