Early days

On October 5, 1983, in New York City, USA, Nicholai Olivia Hilton, the future Nicky Hilton Rothschild, was born. Richard Hilton, her father, is a Hilton Hotels heir. In addition, he is the co-founder and chairman of the Beverly Hills, California-based real estate company, Hilton & Hyland. Kathleen Elizabeth Hilton, née Avanzino, her mother, is a philanthropist, fashion designer, and actor. Nicky, the second of her parents' four children, has two younger brothers, Barron Nicholas Hilton II and Conrad Hughes Hilton III, as well as an older sister named Paris Whitney Hilton.

Nicky spent her teens and twenties in Los Angeles before moving back to the East Coast, probably around 1996, with her family. She characterized her upbringing in an interview as beautiful, with her family traveling with their parents and living in hotel suites rather than typical residences. She stated, "We just fit into their lives." Paris and Nicky were raised similarly to other kids, riding the school bus to and from school. They were also urged to hold bake sales in their communities to gather money for gifts that would be given to the hospital's patients, teaching them that not all kids have the same opportunities.

They were educated early on that money must be earned. She began modeling while still in high school, making her first appearance in Vanity Fair at the age of sixteen with her sister. By the age of seventeen, she had begun creating her own line of handbags. Nicky completed her studies at the all-girls Catholic Convent of the Sacred Heart in Manhattan in 2001. She then enrolled in fashion classes at Parsons School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology, respectively. She departed, nonetheless, without receiving a degree.
