Jackson Wang: A Versatile Designer
Jackson Wang is a Chinese fashion designer who has also been a great singer and vocal director. He has a separate record label, Team Wang, along with being a creative director and lead designer for his home brand, Team Wang Design. Even though he was born and brought up in Hong Kong, he has gained huge popularity in China. This has now become possible for him after joining JYP Entertainment's K-Pop Boy. After gaining global wide recognition, he started his own venture named Team Wang and started releasing solo music in China. He started releasing them globally thereafter. His most famous solo album, Mirrors, has gotten huge recognition across the world, even though it has reached number 32 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. The ‘Mirror' was released in the year 2019. Recently, in the year 2021, he left the JYP Entertainment group and formed a separate hip-hop group under his home venture, Team Wang.
Early Life
Jackson Wang was born on the 28th of June 1994 in the estate of Kowloon Tong, British Hong Kong. Both of his parents were athletes. His mother, Sophia Chow, is a gymnast, whereas Wang Ruiji, his father, is a fencer. Motivated by his parents, he began learning about fencing at a very young age, namely 10. He has taken that seriously and practised it so hard that it brought him several awards. This includes first place at the Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship in the year 2011.
Even though he was very successful in the path of fencing, his soul and heart showed much interest in joining the arts. While playing a game at his school in 2010, he was noticed by a representative of the South Korean talent agency JYP Entertainment, who invited him to participate in the global auditions in Kowloon. Fortunately, he has passed the audition. Along with that, he was even offered a scholarship to attend Stanford University for fencing. He began his K-pop training in Seoul, South Korea, because it was more appealing to him than fencing. His first programme was "Win: Who is Next Two Years Later". This is a competition between YG Entertainment employees and JYP Trainees. He later joined the group called "Got7", of which Mark, Yugyeom, and BamBam are famous members. This group released its first song, "Girls Girls Girls," in the year 2014. As time went by, he gained popularity with his solo appearances. His next song/show was released in 2014, and his solo performance was highly praised. With all of this, he was able to win the SBS Entertainment Awards' Newcomer Award in 2014.
With all his work and contributions and commitments, he was able to gain huge popularity. With this, in the year 2016, he was appointed as MC for Fresh Sunday, which is a famous show on Hunan TV. In the year 2016, Got7 held its first concert in Seoul, in which Wang performed his songs "I Love It" and "WOLO" with his group members Yugyeom and BamBam.
Just before that achievement, he made his debut on Chinese television with the Chinese version of the show Please Take Care of My Refrigerator. Along with that, he did "Go Fridge," which was also well received by the audience. Along with these, he has also written the lyrics which have his composition, and he has arranged his theme song for the show in seasons 2 and 3.
In the year 2017, he was dropped from all his activities regarding music and all due to his health concerns. His first solo commercial for Midea was released in the year 2016. In the same year, he even appeared in a Chinese TV series. In the same year, he was awarded the title "variety star of the year" at the Tencent Variety Show Star Awards.
His Career and Achievements
In the year 2017, Wang was awarded the popular artist of the year award for his work at the Sina Weibo Awards. In the year 2017. JYP Entertainments has announced its release of the first solo album by Wang in China along with the establishment of his management team, Team Wang, for its position in China. Along with that, he has established another team named Snake or the Rabbit, which is based in the United States of America.
In the year 2018, he even signed with the culture of canxing to enter the international market. For his contributions in this field, he was even respected by Madame Tussauds Hong Kong for arranging his wax figure. This wax figure of Wang was unveiled on July 30th, the same year. In the following year, he was appointed as the new ambassador of Fendi China. In the year 2019, he held a birthday party, which was named the 328 Journey Festival, at the Beijing Olympics sports center. Showing his popularity, all tickets were sold out in a short period.
He was even featured in some of the singles of famous personalities. One such song is the song "Rumble". This song belongs to the album Diaspora, released by Goldlink and Lil Nei. After the success of that song, he collaborated with Qin Fen and released "Another" in the year 2019. The following year, there was a release of Fendi, which was named the Fendi X Jackson Wang Capsule Collection. This collection was sold out within a few minutes of its release. This collection will be released in the year 2020.
Personal Life
Because of his wide popularity in the entertainment industry, he has got a command of several languages, such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, and English. He can fluently speak these languages.
He is a great patriot. He used to keep his country in front of him in all his activities. In the year 2019, he uploaded a pic of his country's flag and declared himself "one among the 1.4 billion guardians of the Chinese flag". He did this to show his response to the Hong Kong protests. He used to state that he always wished to prove that his country was no longer inferior to any country in terms of music. He used to say that he wanted to let people know that Chinese kids are working on good music. In the year 2021, he terminated his relationship with the Adidas company after his public statement about that company.
