Identify the compound X on the basis of the reactions given below. Also, write the name and chemical formulae of A, B and C.
"
(1) When NaOH reacts with zinc (a metal), it gives sodium zincate (a salt) and hydrogen gas:
$2NaOH+ Zn→ Na_2ZnO_2 + H_2(g)$
(2) When sodium hydroxide (a base) and HCl (an acid) reacts together, they form a common salt (NaCl) and water:
$NaOH + HCl →NaCl + H_2O$
This is Neutralization reaction as acid + base gives salt + water.
(3) When NaOH and CH3COOH (an acid) reacts together, they form a salt of sodium acetate and water:
$NaOH + CH_3COOH→ CH_3COONa + H_2O$
This is Neutralization reaction as acid + base gives salt + water.
Hence, compound X is Sodium hydroxide.
A is sodium zincate (Na2ZnO2)
B is common salt (NaCl)
C is sodium acetate (CH3COONa).
