Hydrogen occupies a unique position in the Modern Periodic Table because of the following reasons-

  1. Hydrogen and alkali metals have a similar outer electronic configuration as both have one electron in their outermost shell.
  2. Properties of Hydrogen are similar to properties of Halogens as electronic configurations of halogens and Hydrogen are the same.
