Cottagecore Fashion

Although the cottagecore style has existed since the late 2010s, it really took off in 2020 with the beginning of the pandemic. It isn’t hard to understand the appeal of thinking about escaping first from the world and then becoming immersed in a jungle, like something of a cinematic character, specifically for those living in the city, when everyone is under quarantine. Making bread, playing Animal Crossing, and listening to Taylor Swift’s new album are just a few of the comforting things we do during quarantine. Cottagecore also gained popularity at a period when consumers of fashion began to place more importance on sustainability. Along with supply chain difficulties, many people are making their own garments or thrifting, which are important to the aesthetic.

What is the Meaning of Cottagecore Fashion?

Cottagecore clothing is characterized by flowing, loose−fitting skirts and dresses with long or puffed sleeves. The look also includes knit sweaters, Peter Pan collars, baggy linen slacks, and overalls. Whites, browns, and greens make up the majority of the color scheme, but there are also many other traditional neutral patterns, such as flowers, paisley, stripes, and gingham, that are extensively used. Princesscore, witchcore, and vintage−inspired apparel are a few other popular aesthetics where cottagecore has found a home.

Cottagecore fashion comprises late 18th−century soft muslin dresses, Edwardian leg of mutton sleeves, and art nouveau accents. A key component of this aesthetic is its preferred setting, which is a farmhouse or in the French or English countryside. The garments are light, flowing, and basic because of the desire to exist in an all−natural and self−sustaining environment.

How to Style Yourself in Cottagecore?

Following are some of the popular styles −

  • Wear puffy sleeves to add flair to your outfits

In addition to florals, Cottagecore features several more striking details. Puff sleeves, which can be found on a variety of attractive blouses and skirts, are, in my opinion, one of the nicest elements of the aesthetic.

  • Adopt the trend discreetly

Despite its whimsical nature, cottage−style is a very daring fashion style that may or may not work with different dress codes or circumstances. Despite this, you can still add hints of fashion to your everyday attire. Consider putting a gorgeous ribbon or bow in your hair; blouses with lace or embroidery; and, of course, flowery prints.

  • Replace dresses with jumpsuits

Jumpsuits eliminate the need for body−hugging jeans and unpleasant waistbands, and the cottagecore style category offers a wide variety of these one−piece alternatives.

  • Design your handbags and hands with straws

Without the proper accessories, no outfit is complete. Wicker accents help cottagecore’s natural motif stand out, so finish off your outfit with a straw hat if you’re going outside or carry a straw handbag on your arm while commuting.

Classification of cottagecore

Following are the major classes of cottagecore −

  • Laid−back cottagecore

Try incorporating cottagecore features into your everyday style if you like the feel but don’t want to appear as though you just stepped out of your comfort zone. You can convey just the right amount of romance with a flowery shirt, a pair of tattered, baggy trousers, and a pair of leather shoes without drawing too many looks.

  • Classic cottagecore

Cable−knit knitwear, cotton outfits with puff sleeves and sweetheart necklines, and accessories made from natural materials are all essentials of cottagecore fashion. To create an automated cottagecore outfit, tie them all together into one ensemble.

  • Cottagecore streamlined

Keep it easy and fashionable with a neutral wrap sweater, a long skirt, and some boots if you adore the cottage style but don’t want to deal with all the corsets and buttons.

  • The Witch’s Cottagecore

For those who prefer to live in a small cabin in the woods and cast spells and brew potions, there is “Witchcore.” Make your way back if the pretty white cotton dresses aren’t your style by wearing a black lace dress and some combat boots. Don’t forget your witch hat.

  • Vintage Cottagecore

Since cottagecore promotes thrifting for sustainability, it draws significantly from the retro styles of the 1930s and 1950s (or the 19th century for some admirers). For a lovely style, combine the two outfits with a collared blouse, a cute pinafore dress, and some Mary Janes.

  • Princesscore

Princesscore, a glitzier take on the style, is another well−liked fashion fad that emerged from cottagecore. If you are a little too over−the−top for classic cottagecore, dress to impress with a chic outfit, statement jewelry, and a chic handbag.

  • The Garden Cottage

Create an ensemble that is embraced by venturing outside into nature to embrace the darker side of cottagecore. Put on your favorite overalls and a hair wrap and lose yourself in the magic, whether you’re gardening, hiking, or just taking a stroll.

  • Office Cottagecore

Unfortunately, because we still have to go to work, we can’t finally fulfil our true calling of living off the grid, gathering berries, and creating art. With an embroidered cardigan, corduroy slacks, and some pretty heels to pull it all together, we can still add whimsy to the workplace.

Conclusion

Like any fashion trend or movement, cottagecore is a live, breathing entity that is always changing and evolving. Since the holidays are approaching and people like to reflect on their childhood and family memories, some people believe that cottagecore will maintain its “warm and fuzzy” vibe while embracing the traditional and romantic. Others claim that by combining it with “the clean lines” and neutral colors of minimalist décor, it may become a more contemporary style. If the cottagecore trend gains traction in the fashion world to the point where it is equally recognized and valued as dark academic trends or even streetwear fashion, only time will tell.
