Christmas Gift: Skype Chat + Office Online

Recently, Microsoft has integrated Microsoft Office Online (Office Online Word and Office Online PowerPoint) with Skype on Web. With this new integration, users can now easily chat with their friends, relatives, and office colleagues while editing an Office Online Word document/Office Online PowerPoint presentation right through Skype.

Also, users can create a group chat via Skype contacts within these two Office Online apps. Earlier, Skype chats were available on Outlook.com and OneDrive, but now this feature is also available on Office Online.

This integration is in some way similar to Hangouts with Google Docs. This proves that Microsoft is now ready to challenge Google’s Hangouts chat service with its Skype chat service.

The new feature of Office Online called ‘document chat’ facilitates users to chat with each other while working on a document. This chat service is going to be very beneficial in increasing work productivity. To use this chat service, you just need to click on the chat button from the upper right corner of the Office Online Document. Once a user clicks the Chat button to chat, the other user will receive a chat request. Once the other user accepts the chat request, the chat window appears for both users.

Skype document chat feature is now only available with Office Online. To avail this feature, you need to visit Microsoft Office site. This feature is available on smartphones and tablets too; users can chat through Skype on desktop or mobile after completing their work on the document and closing it too.

Before this integration, Microsoft integrated Skype on web to enable video chat service directly from web browser. This new service reduces the use of any third-party utility or tools on web browsers (Google Chrome, IE, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari) to start real-time voice/video chatting.
To start using Skype in Office Online is very easy; you just need to have a Microsoft account that should be linked to your Skype account. Great! Enjoy your chat service with Office online.
