All plants give out oxygen during day and carbon dioxide during night". Do you agree with this statement? Give reason."
No. I don't agree with the statement.
Plants release carbon dioxide not only at night but also during the day. During respiration, plants take in free oxygen molecules from the air and produce water, carbon dioxide, and energy required for the plants to grow.
However, during the day, in presence of sunlight, another process known as photosynthesis occurs, in which the plants absorb carbon dioxide to prepare their food (sugars). As a result of photosynthesis, oxygen is released back into the atmosphere.
However, as photosynthesis does not occur during the night, the carbon dioxide released due to plant respiration seems to be higher than that released during the day. Hence, it is a misconception that plants release carbon dioxide only at night.
