Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers are another important class of organic compounds. By simply replacing the hydrogen atom in a hydrocarbon by -OH group, we get a new class of compounds (alcohols/phenols) which differ vastly in their physical properties and chemical reactions. These compounds find ubiquitous applications: from the sugar we eat, cotton we use in fabrics, paper, household products such as disinfectants to medicinal applications. In this chapter, we learn how alcohols, phenols and ethers are different from each other, their methods of preparation along with the various unique reactions they undergo.
This video has been prepared to address the curriculum requirements of 12th Class students. The concepts discussed will also find applications in several competitive examinations like JEE-Mains, NEET along with board examinations.
