A student dipped the strip of metal X in a blue coloured salt solution YSO4. After some time, a layer of metal Y from the salt solution is formed on the surface of metal strip X. Metal X is used in galvanisation whereas metal Y is used in making electric wires. Metals X and Y together form an alloy Z.
(a) What could be (a) metal X, and (ii) metal Y? (b) Name the metal salt YSO4. Write its chemical formula
(c) What type of chemical reaction takes place when metal X reacts with salt solution YSO4.
(d) Name the alloy Z.

(a) (i)Metal X is used in galvanization. Hence, it can be Zinc (Zn).
(ii) Metal Y is used in making electric wires. Therefore, it is Copper (Cu).
(b) The metal salt YSO4is Copper sulphate. Its chemical formula is written as CuSO4.
(c) Displacement reaction takes place as X is more reactive than Y.
The equation for the above reaction is given as:
$CuSO_4(aq)+Zn(s)→ZnSO_4 (aq)+Cu(s)$
(d) Brass is an alloy made of Copper and Zinc.
