Now, because of heavy or 24 hours uses of computer at corporate or home place, it becomes a complex and delicate machine. This complex and delicate machine sometime goes wrong while updating BIOS, downloading new drivers, or just surfing the Web. To resolve these issues user does not have to buy an expensive device or replace it with a new one.
 
Microsoft provides a very useful Windows functions called Safe Mode functions. It’s always good to start windows in a safe mode to troubleshoot any kind of issues which give bad effects on the system. Although, using this mode only certain program can be run because it is basically to remove viruses, change bad drivers and other diagnostic tasks that cannot be removed in Normal Mode. It’s a bare-bones version of Windows operating system, required to boot the system securely to the desktop without any settings or problematic software interference. Presence of this facilitates user to troubleshoot further to eliminate the problem and boot the system normally again.
 
Follow instructions given below to start windows in a safe mode.

Steps to place the computer to boot into Safe Mode

First Method: For Windows 8 and 7

Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows + R keys or by clicking on Start –> Run.
 

After opening the Run dialog box, type “msconfig” and press Enter.
 

After opening the System Configuration Window, click on the Boot tab, check the “Safe boot” box and “Minimal” option then click on “Apply” and “OK”. According to this method, the computer will automatically boot into Safe Mode every time whenever the computer get restarted.
 

To bring-up the computer in unsafe mode, repeat same steps and uncheck the “Safe boot” box.
 

Second Method: For Windows 8

On the Sign-In screen – Click on the Power button, use this method if user cannot sign into Windows properly. Hold the Shift key and click Restart from the Power menu. This will open the Startup Settings after the computer reboots.
 

Once user is in the Startup Settings menu, select the mode of the computer booting process to troubleshoot the computer issues.

Third Method: For Windows XP, Vista, 7

To reboot the computer in a safe mode, restart the computer and start pressing the F8 key as soon as the “Advenced Boot Options” interface appears.
 
When user starts pressing “F8”, some computers not all display a “keyboard error” message. Although, to resolve this error restart the computer and try again.
 
If the computer starts normally, it means that user is getting fail in pressing “F8” button, then again reboot the computer and try again.
 

There are three options in Safe Mode

  • Regular Safe Mode
  • Safe Mode with Networking
  • Safe Mode with Command Prompt

 

Regular Safe Mode

This is a most optional Windows method to deal with viruses and other malware using minimal drivers without internet connection.
 

Safe Mode with Networking

A helpful windows method used to troubleshoot or download drivers using the internet connection in safe mode.
 

Safe Mode with Command Prompt

It facilitates users a DOS command prompt as opposed to Windows. This is helpful for running command prompt tools such as chkdsk. The computer will begins to start in safe mode while pressing “Enter”.

Microsoft’s Windows Safe Mode looks simple to use but very effective troubleshooting tool. Using Safe Mode user can avoid hardware or software clashes because most components are not loaded. User gets full control to the Control Panel – Can remove drivers, uninstall software, and stop programs and services. Safe Mode is a place where user can suddenly run typical Windows problems, like a slow or freezing system, random crashes, or dramatic boot issues.
