What Is an Alternate IP Address?
As the name specifies, an alternate IP address is the address that is specified on a client computer, and works as a substitute to the IP address that the computer receives from the DHCP server. A client computer uses an alternate IP address when it does not receive the dynamic IP address from the DHCP server.
