Division Facts

For every group of three numbers, there will be two multiplication facts and two division facts.

Memorizing such math facts and multiplication tables helps in solving division and multiplication problems.

For example the multiplication and division facts for numbers 40, 5 and 8 are as follows:

5 × 8 = 40

8 × 5 = 40

40 ÷ 8 = 5

40 ÷ 5 = 8

In this lesson we use division facts and multiplication tables to solve division problems

Divide 42 ÷ 6

Solution

Step 1:

To find the answer to this problem we need to know the multiplication and division facts for 42, 6 and 7 and multiplication table of 6.

Step 2:

The multiplication facts for 6, 7 and 42 are;

6 × 7 = 42

7 × 6 = 42

The division facts for 6, 7 and 42 are;

42 ÷ 6 = 7

42 ÷ 7 = 6

Step 3:

From above division facts it is clear that

42 ÷ 6 = 7

One more way of explaining given problem is that if there are 6 groups each having equal number of items and the total number of items is 42, then number of items in each group is given by;

42 ÷ 6 = 7

Find the division facts for 8, 10 and 80.

Solution

Step 1:

Divide

80 ÷ 8

80 ÷ 8 = 10

Step 2:

Divide

80 ÷ 10

80 ÷ 10 = 8

Step 3:

So the division facts for 8, 10 and 80 are ;

80 ÷ 8 = 10

80 ÷ 10 = 8

Find the division facts for 9, 12 and 108

Solution

Step 1:

Divide

108 ÷ 9

108 ÷ 9 = 12

Step 2:

Divide

108 ÷ 12

108 ÷ 12 = 9

Step 3:

So the division facts for 9, 12 and 108 are;

108 ÷ 9 = 12
