Description:

If we want to show the number of visitors currently online there are a few basic things we need to know about how the internet works. People will not be connected to your web server when they are reading a page.

Unless you are streaming audio or video, when someone clicks on a link that points to a page on your website, the visitors browser contacts the web server and requests the page. After the page has been received by the visitors computer and is being displayed on its screen, the connection between the computer and the server will no longer exist.    More detail...
