ASP.NET is "ASP" + ".NET". Firstly, ASP.NET is the latest version of Microsoft's Active Server Pages technology (ASP). Secondly, ASP.NET is a part of the Microsoft .NET framework.

Like ASP or PHP, ASP.NET also can be used for creating dynamic and interactive web pages.

ASP.NET was first released in January 2002 with version 1.0 of the .NET Framework, and is the successor to Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP) technology.
