Hi!

I have searched a lot over the net but I could not find a satisfactory article on Ruby on Rails.

Any pointer will be appreciated.

working through the tutorial

by zsommers » Tue Feb 12, 2008 7:57 am

I was trying to work my way through the tutorial and I seem to have run into some problems. I was setting the the Add a Book page on http://www.tutorialspoint.com/ruby-on-r ... -views.htm and keep coming up with errors. This is the message I'm getting:

/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.0.2/lib/active_record/attribute_methods.rb:205:in `method_missing'
/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/actionpack-2.0.2/lib/action_view/helpers/form_helper.rb:562:in `send'
/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/actionpack-2.0.2/lib/action_view/helpers/form_helper.rb:562:in `value_before_type_cast'
/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/actionpack-2.0.2/lib/action_view/helpers/form_helper.rb:550:in `value_before_type_cast'
/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/actionpack-2.0.2/lib/action_view/helpers/form_helper.rb:465:in `to_input_field_tag'
/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/actionpack-2.0.2/lib/action_view/helpers/form_helper.rb:289:in `text_field'
app/views/book/new.rhtml:4:in `_run_erb_47app47views47book47new46rhtml'

and this is the code I have in:

1: <h1>Add new book</h1>
2: <%= form_tag :action => 'create' %>
3: <p><label for="book_title">Title</label>:
4: <%= text_field( 'book', 'title' )%></p>
5: <p><label for="book_price">Price</label>:
6: <%= text_field 'book', 'price' %></p>
7: <p><label for="book_subject">Subject</label>:

I had to look up that start_form_tag was removed, and I was wondering what other changes I might not have realized I needed to make. Thanks for any help you can give me.

zsommers wrote:2: <%= form_tag :action => 'create' %>

<% form_tag 'create' do %>
that works for me.
Where I am stuck is fixing this line
Code: Select all
<%= start_form_tag :action => 'update', :id => @book %>
in edit.html.erb

This tutorial is the closest I have found to get a working rails app.
Could someone please post some help with getting it to run with Rails 2.0.2 ?
