Should we Fear about Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Automation, and Robotics are developing in a faster phase, which had created unwanted fear among the people. One of the major reasons for this fear is, the unwanted hype created by these technologies. Don’t worry! Human beings will continue to rule the planet earth and AI will just be part of the human life. In this article, I am going to share my view on these terms and clear the fear among the readers and public.

Know what Artifical Intelligence (AI) is?

Artificial Intelligence is one of the hot topics in the Information and Technology sector, which has been given much hype by the research scholars and working professionals. At one side, this hype can consider at as big. But on another side, this hype can be considered as too much. People who are active in low profile and the low skilled job may feel the real hype than others, as they are the major target of AI. Before hearing about a technology, we need to understand its capacity in and out.

So, the term Artificial Intelligence can be defined as the process of instructing and training a machine to have human intelligence. All this instruction and training is given by the human engineers. Human engineers will continuously train the machines/software with a different set of inputs to get the desired output without any human intervention. Training will be given with all the dataset, which a human engineer will handle during the problem-solving. The process of training will continue as long as the machine is able to work without any human intervention.

Training of AI will majorly fall under two categories such as supervised training and unsupervised training. During the initial phase of AI, supervised training will be carried out. Supervised learning is the basic learning method, which has a dependency on human input. In supervised learning, a human engineer will feed input and check for the required output. The system will be trained in a way to get the required output from the actual output. Unsupervised learning is an advanced method, where the system will learn from its previous history. In most of the organization, initially supervised learning will be adopted and then moved to the advanced learning methods.

Reality of AI

In reality, no training or instruction can make the machine 100% equivalent to human intelligence. It is like trying to achieve 100% perfection which is practically impossible. In AI, machines are trained and instruction to attain 100% human intelligence and perfection. But it is not possible.The day when the machines are supposed to behave with 100% human intelligence, it will be the starting point for the extinction of the human beings. Although we are nearing to that point, we couldn’t. It is not possible in future too.

Human engineers will try to feed inputs based upon individual problem-solving capacity. The problem-solving capacity may be or may not be true. So indirectly the system will behave in a way, the human engineers have trained. In practice, it should act in the same as the human engineers. Unfortunately, the system could behave in the same way as the human engineers.

Requirement and nature of the problem will keep on changing. There will be no limitation on the problem type or a number of problems. So, unfortunately, the training process for the Artificial Intelligence will keep on going as the requirement and the environment will be kept on changing.

Open Challenges

So the open challenges before Artificial Intelligence are,

  • Requirement and system will keep on changing.
  • Problem-solving methods will vary and affects performance
  • 100% human intelligence is not possible.

Although these are the open challenges in front of AI, still it can solve the human problem to the large extent. It can be used to solve the effortless and static task, then solving the complex task. AI intelligence can be used to solve the problems in the bottom of the pyramid than aiming for the apex of the pyramid. Although the impact will be very less, it can solve a large number of problems.

Does this Impact?

Level 1 in the pyramid is the major focus of AI, as Level 2 and Level 3 are complicated. The number of the task in the level 1 are more in number than the other two levels. The number workforce employed to solve the level 1 task is also higher than the other levels. Since level 1 is the major focus for AI, many might end up in losing the job. From the organization perspective, it may be considered as cost reduction mechanism. From engineers point, it may consider as the resource reduction mechanism. This was the same when the industrial revolution had evolved. When Industrial Revolution had evolved, many had lost their job. But the number of opportunities got increased and the demand was met with the available number of the resource. The same will be in the scenario of AI implementation. AI will help the human engineers and organization to meet the demand.

How to Overcome?

The best way to overcome this problem is migrating from the level 1 to level 2. One should have strong skill updating, which will make them move across the level and secure their role in the organization. As the influence of AI in level 2 will take a long time, it can help the engineer to survive for a long period of time. AI influence on next level will take more time than the lifespan of an engineer.

Beyond overcoming the problem, the best way is to face the challenges put forward by the AI. Although solving the minor problems may reduce the human resource, but the number of opportunities will increase and thereby will equalize the reduced human resource.

The cycle of reduction and addition will continue as long as the new technologies get to evolve in the market. Although AI has created huge hype in the industry with its impact, it cannot go for a long run as long as Human engineers exist. Human engineers will continue to dominate any systems with the powerful logical thinking.
