How to Install Sublime Text Editor on Ubuntu


Sublime Text is a cross-platform source code editor with a Python application programming interface (API). It natively supports many programming languages and markup languages, and its functionality can be extended by users with plugins, typically community-built and maintained under free-software licenses.

Installing Sublime

There are two version’s of Sublime Text is available to install, To install Sublime 2, use the following commands –

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/sublime-text-2

The sample output should be like this –

Sublime Text 2 packages - the .deb will automatically download the latest build  from http://www.sublimetext.com/dev or beta from http://www.sublimetext.com/2 (Adobe Flash Player installer - style).

To install sublime 3, use the following commands-

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/sublime-text-3
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install sublime-text-installer

To open sublime, use the following command –

$ subl

sublime
